Five generations ago, shortly after second world war, Ella (Nan) and Stanley Martin (Gonk) moved to Grand Bend to open a new restaurant called Dooley’s Lunch on Main Street West. In 1955, they opened the Bluewater Restaurant located at 135 Ontario Street South. Over the decades, the family operated a number of successful businesses in the community.

The family sold the Bluewater Restaurant in the late nineties and it re-opened as Aunt Gussie’s Country Dining and Delectables. The restaurant returned to family hands when LeeAnn (Stanley’s great granddaughter) and Patrick Powers bought the business in 2006.

Today, The Lake Hound is the newest incarnation of this family’s proud business legacy. A new name was selected to signal new menu selections and because, like the area visitors they serve, the owners are drawn to the beauty of Lake Huron and naturally become Lake Hounds!

The Lake Hound breakfast, lunch and dinner menus preserve fan favourites while presenting fresh, new offerings that are vegan and gluten-free and inspired by the world’s cuisine that is today’s Canadian dining experience. You’ll find naan bread, chipotle flavours, udon noodles, quinoa, hemp seeds, black sesame seeds and butter chicken curry to name just a few taste explorer favourites.
